Substation of the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Dept.

The  Town of Santa Clara (TSC) substation of the Tupper Lake Fire Department (TLFD) was established in 2017 to provide better local  fire coverage for TSC residents in the Upper Saranac Lake area. The TSC substation firetruck (Number 162) is an ETA 1250 pump/1000-gallon tank stationed at the TSC Town Hall. A fire boat is stationed in Gilpin Bay, midpoint on Upper Saranac Lake from ice-out until weather necessitates its removal and storage at the Town Hall. The fire boat is the only public safety access for many of the camps and homes on Upper Saranac Lake. The fireboat routinely provides safety coverage for the 90-miler Canoe race and participates in the annual July fourth  boat parade on Upper Saranac Lake to acquaint people with its water pumping capabilities.

The TSC substation  currently has 8 active members. Most have previous firefighting, rescue, or emergency response experience. Members attend training classes year-round on a bi-weekly basis. In addition to fire calls, members are first on the scene for automatic alarms, motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), trees and power lines down and to assist rescue personnel as needed.

Donations to support your local fire department can be made c/o Tupper Lake Fire Department, 21 Santa Clara Ave, PO Box 849, Tupper Lake, NY 12986.
